Visit Decatur Texas (Downtown Guide)
I go through Decatur Texas a few times a year when I travel from Lubbock Texas to Denton Texas. Usually, it’s just a pit stop for a bathroom break and a Coke Zero but this time I decided to stop and explore.
It’s a charming town with some really fun things to explore downtown. Let’s explore together.
Decatur Texas Downtown
So let’s start with what to eat while you are downtown. My favorite place is Rooster’s Roadhouse. They made the BEST fresh potato chips and don’t forget to get the house sauce to dip them in.
We had several things off the menu and honestly we all loved our food. They are right on the square across from the Courthouse.
If you want pizza instead, on the other side is State Street Pizza Company. They make some great pizzas. For something unique get the Loaded pizza fries. They are so good with some ranch dressing.
If tacos are your thing there is Fuzzy’s Tacos right next to the State Street Pizza Company. Tons of choices for even the pickiest member of your family.
Shopping in Downtown Decatur Texas
There are several galleries and boutiques right along the square. After you eat, simply walk around the square and pop in and support the local businesses.
Hey Sugar Decatur Texas
Before we left the square, we stopped at Hey Sugar. They have all the old types of candy and an entire back wall of root beer and drinks.
The taffy is delicious, and I had to get some fun ones for my niece. She loves pickles and they had pickle taffy.
For my nephew, I got a lemonade called Dog’s Drool. We played a trivia game and when he lost he had to drink the dog’s drool.
Honestly, it tasted like lemonade and was really good, but the look on his face when he opened it was hilarious. They have some really unique candy gifts for anyone on your list. The chocolate was amazing!
Decatur Texas Courthouse
The courthouse downtown has been around in 1895. It’s gorgeous and majestic. In 2024 it’s going through a complete makeover.
Be aware of the construction but definitely check out the work happening because it is gorgeous.
Decatur Texas Mural
There is a parking lot right off the square and there is a gorgeous mural that is a great place to take a selfie.
Whether you are stopping on your trip or looking for a fun weekend getaway, Decatur is a great city with a ton of history and fun things to do. As a small town in Texas, it definitely makes you smile and enjoy yourself.
